“GIFTING” PYRAMID SCHEME SCAMS

Gifting Pyramid Schemes were the darling of the 90’s and have carried over into the new century. One of the big hype lies for these is “money you receive is not taxable because of IRS code.” Several I have seen, even used a tax assistance phone line for the IRS out of Houston! This pitch gave the number and extension for an automated voice information “box” the IRS offered to inform the public about tax-free gifts. What the scamsters forgot to tell people is that pyramid schemes are illegal and that the money is taxable. The Pyramid Scheme crooks were getting people to break the law twice! Once for participation in a Pyramid Scheme and second for tax evasion! Here is a great example of Pyramid Scheme recruiting email:
